I have decided to begin adding a monthly weed review to the site. Real, informal and all natural. As many know, marijuana as much of a miracle plant that it is, is still illegal in most states, but just like the herb, legalization is spreading like bamboo! Welcome, Medical Marijuana! So, as of last month, I received mine, which means the herb is legal for myself because of medicinal purposes.  After going into a local dispensary and seeing the forest of selection there is out there, I thought it’d be helpful to begin a monthly Weed Review for all and the uninformed to see…

“Pure Og Kush”

Strength: A Good “10″

Length of High: Easy 2 Hours…

Medicinal Therapies: 

Insomnia, Pain, Stress, Anxiety, Hunger Disorders

Pros:

Feeling sleepy, A sense of Euphoria, Happy, Hungry, Numbness

Cons:

Dry Mouth and Eyes, Dizziness, Headache, Paranoia

Description:

Light green in colour, soft. Signature pot tastes and smell. Easy hit, smooth. Pretty instant reaction. High Lasting about 1-3 hours. 

Review:

What can I say about Pure Og. It lives up to it’s name and provides one damn good high. The first time I tried it I really dug it, but I will admit, with great high can come a weird sorta pot trip. In some ways, it reminded me of acid. Some trips can be damn great and illustrative, but then you get the occasional naked, toes-n-yer-nose, screaming and chanting fit. Pure Og can take you to calm and happy in about two or three hits and numb and goddamn cozy in a joint. Real nice.

My first time with it, I lit up, took about 2-3 deep hits. The initial feeling began in the face and eyes which a sense of vibration. Tingling could be felt throughout my arms and legs. A sense of eclipsing euphoria and comfort washed over me. About 10-20 minutes into my high, I noticed enhanced senses, more numbness, comfort, hunger, happiness and carelessness. That’s gotta be one of the best signature reactions… that 420 happiness. All your problems slipping away and the wonderful sense of joy from the same film/show you’ve watch 1 million times like you experienced the first time you watched it. Laughing your ass off like a goddamn kid and everything tasting fan-fucking-tastic.

The next thing I noticed was a great sensation from sounds. The louder the better. Almost trance like. Hearing everything, feeling everything. Almost seeing sounds. (Again, just like acid.) Instead of mental and visual like acid, it is sensual. Still the sleepiness grew into a sense of warm vibration. As I laid in bed, I got this great sense of vibration. Like I could feel my body’s beats and vibrations. A draw back came with it though. It was then that I felt slight paranoia. Like someone was watching or the vibration beats would feel like when you float face up in deep water and have a slight panic. I could hear everything. The beats and sense of rocking in bed, up and down rather than back and forth, would stop when I would snap out real quick and then, it would slowly begin again. Another time, I thought my radio was on even though it wasn’t.

A plus, was that I also felt like I couldn’t get into negative thoughts, which is why I think it’s a great battle against anxiety. I’d see or think of a bummer/stresser and would just brush it off, even when paranoid. An absolute who-gives-a-fuck feeling towards everything. A draw back I also got from that mentality was distraction. I could give a fuck about work things and wanna just watch tv/listen to music and eat crisps.

Anyway, after I finally drifted to sleep, which felt so easy from this laid back feeling. (Pure Og is a perfect name for it simply out of sarcasm.) I woke so easy. Well rested like a kid on holiday. Ready, stressless, comfy and good. Early and on time, even. A great benefit for someone with insomnia.

All and all a damn good high.

Now, let me explain about what I mean about it being ever changing and unpredictable, like acid.The next couple of times like that it was great, then one day, things turned. My numbness fixated into a slight headache. The numbness continued like usual, but still I had a headache. I did get tingling and that feeling of every muscle and sense of movement from bone to muscle to skin as usual, but I had quite a bit of paranoia. I felt like I was feeling shadows and seeing sounds. Literally. I felt like I was being watched. I got a sense someone was standing behind or over me, just staring. Not good. I also jumped a little over my none movement like a sense of tipping over and also over sounds. 

When I went to bed, my senses were heightened and I could feel like I was being watched. I also felt like I was having that dream where you slip from the curb. I would slip up awake with a jolt on occasion. When I woke up, I still felt well rested and cozy like I always did.

How I know it’s great for pain? Well, I tested it against a sore back and a bite to the lip. Within two or three hits, it’s like Tylonol. A joint, it’s bloody, Vicodin. I couldn’t feel my face much less my back. I drank my dark Zinfandel wine and as it rush over my small cut, I literally felt nothing. *No-thing*.

As I listen to Progressive Goa Trance right now and feel the vibrations from drum to finger tip, let me just say Pure Og is a strong Indica with a great trip. It is not good for working or operating any sort of machinery and carries with it a distracting fixation for only entertainment. It’s great for a suppressed hunger problem. You crave a lot and cozy, sweet foods mostly. It also leads to an amazing rest, sense or carelessness and amazing senses of euphoria (wink, wink). While not lasting, it is still great, comfy, chilling high. 

Would I Recommend?: Hell, Yes…

Welcome to the weekend! : ) Many wishes of rest, peace and tranquility to you!

Right now, the incense is burning, the sun is shining and the weather is so sweet up on the mountain. There’s an awesome breeze, the birds are singing their melodies and the prayer flags share an afternoon dance with the occasional butterfly.

After everything with my computer system failing and falling apart it makes you take it easy when you’d love *nothing* more, than to freak out and start calling upon all your disadvantages as a summary of your present situation. I call upon my shop as a dove when I am lost in the seas of the economy. The economy as unforgiving and turbulent at times as is the ocean, the shop is a release and the sales she finds is a sweet loving sign of dry land. It isn’t where I want to be, it’s where I have to be and for now, that’s okay. I dream of having more stability than what these waters face me with and look forward to the day my dove brings back a good sign of that and the horizon breaks open to the view of the island (dream place) I have been searching for…

When my system failed, I was…hell, I am…reminded of how “twig and tape” my ship has been so far. I started my journey to get to the place I want to be with one pixie vest, a 500 yr old laptop that was slow, broken and basically like having no computer at all, an old cell phone camera and nature as my backdrop. My investment costs? Fiber money for that one vest and .20 cents to pay the man at port (Etsy) to get started. From there, I saw the wind (sales) hit my sails and take me to both barren seas (famine) and then to rich coral reef ridden waters (feast). More and more the vests were able to pop up, I was able to feed myself and my family and I realized with the ever changing tides that is the Etsy business, I have been very lucky so far.

With the computer dead, the cell phone camera deteriorating, the need for a printer now, the need for things I never needed before, I realize(d), not only have I outgrown my ship, but it is really time for a new one. The dove took me to uncharted waters, I conquered many of my goals I set when I came to port (Etsy) with .20 cents in my hand and a vest tucked under the other… It’s a trippy thing to realize, I have done it all that with so much adversity and yet, so little…

It is easy to become frustrated and start kicking the sand and really get pissed off, because although I have been able to feed my family and get things done, upgrading is more expensive than people appreciate. With Etsy and being relatively new to sales coming frequently, it can be easy to live humbly and day to day, week to week, but to have a huge expenditure such as an entirely new system, it can make you feel so bloody small and very disadvantaged…even a failure for not being able progress. Just like you did when you started. I realized, I essentially, took a gamble, in the beginning. I set sail in a dingy, whilst dreaming it was a ship (good system, laptop, printer, modern camera, funds for posting, overlock machines, tuned up sewing machines, upgraded tools for crafting) like my peers who had been here longer. I captained it like it was a ship. I steered it into the deeper waters like it was a ship…but in the end it was a dingy…and now? It’s leaking. The makeshift sails I made from my batik fabric are torn. The wind (the speed of sales), blows right through them. And where it could carry my dreams and hopes for a better future, it can no longer carry the weight of the treasures I have found and will find. Not anymore.

It’s emotional in the way my old broken down, makeshift tools were all I had and now they’re dying, but…it’s exciting, because, now…a new horizon is in view and although I am stranded on land for now, although I am faced with as uphill a climb as it was in the beginning (if not more because my makeshift, temporary back up laptop could die at any time…) with land in sight, the wind at my back and as much determination as ever, it won’t be long til I am back at sea again. Only this time, it won’t be no dingy. This time. It’ll be with a real ship…and the journey, can really begin.

Inspired by the glacial waters of California and my first winter, living in the mountains…

There is something truly beautiful about The United States. We have all types of terrain… All types of people… Creatures… Life. It’s a truly magical place that sadly, not everyone will get to experience int heir lifetime. This world is for experiencing, travelling and most importantly… saving.

I am one of those people who can’t really help but pick up trash when I see it. I know it’s not mine. I know it’s friggin’ gross, but I’d feel even more gross leaving it there on the ground. Worse than if I were the one to have dropped it…

I can’t even dig on going to the beach, because half the time I get swept up in picking things up and throwin’ em in the bins. In the end I feel better for it though. Not out of snobbery or anything. I guess… I just feel like it’s our jobs here on earth. The animals just are… We hold the fault for pollution. No one else. In the end, we’re not going to be pointing fingers saying “Well, he dropped it!”. The reality is he may have dropped, he more than likely had no intention of picking it up, but how many people do you think walked by it thinking someone else will get it. That’s what janitors are for! Before you saw it and you knew it was wrong to leave it there and could have, should have, would have  picked it up? Maybe you were meant to pass by and be the one everyone thought was gonna get it? Maybe you were meant to be the one to pick it up.

Blame and assumptions do nothing.

Taking a moment and throwing it out, can save a life. (Even if that life is sooo small you can’t see it. Think amoeba small.Every life counts, mate…every life.)

But, I digress… This winter was a rough one, boy let me tell you. I’m a naturally tropical girl thanks to my island roots, so I knew it was going to be tough to be snowed in… I knew it would take more than a few adjustments.

(…wearing shoes, big warm clothes, frozen pipes, frozen air and shoveling the walk (!?) …never thought I’d see the day!)

Keep in mind, I sold virtually everything that wasn’t nailed down to pay for the U-haul . That included *all* my winter gear. (which wasn’t much) I found donations handy (I can’t recommend donating enough, btw. Saved my life.) Anyway, I had a few old lady sweaters (sure did…), pink snow pants (…yep) and a neato neon snow coat (mhmm…) In the 80s I would have been stylin’… But, in the year of our Lord, 2013… wearing them all at once to keep my Hawaiian ass warm in -0 temps…Not so much.

It was like that airport scene out of “Cool Runnings”…

Yep…that too… Dread washings were the necessary evil.

Any who, nonetheless, albeit a trying (as all hell) time, it was inspiring. I kept myself from going insane by listening to good music (no thanks to the damn radio…no signal four feet from the moon) dreaming of the islands and crocheting new spring/summer Pixie Vests for up and coming festivals. (best idea I could have had… EVER!!)

So, I decided to challenge myself. To craft something that was beautiful, yet was from a really difficult time. All humour aside. It was. Like I’ve mentioned before, I’m not a wealthy woman. I don’t have a huge team or a safety net. I just am and because of the economy, my fellow bruddahs and sistahs who were hit hard, we have to make that work. We have to eat. Have shelter. Water. Heat. Electricity.  Simple luxuries. We have to grow this from our own two hands, own mind and one soul. The heart beats from the internal parade of strength and determination that says “Keep Going”. Because of the winter doldrums, life was cold in more ways than one. Still… my mind wandered into the islands. My stereo bloomed out music. The incense swirled into the air filling it with the sweet scent of summer and my hands crocheted away. Designing intricate beauty from cold, frozen hardship.

Just like a snowflake.

Just like a woman.

Just like a human.

I like to craft works that have a story behind them. So, that way, the wearer can bond with it on a whole different level if they wanted to… I’d like for them to see themselves. Their story. Their triumphs. So  that way, wherever you are in the world, weather you travel to far off shores…or…never go far from the nest, you can feel explained if not, symbolized.

Your vest is like a tatoo. Beauty. Fun, but truth that cuts deep.

It’s not just a sweater. It’s a story.
